The Seville Club, exhibited the brand new
works of U.K. artist Louisa Greenstock from March 11th
through March 25th, 2006. The Seville Club is located in
Minneapolis, MN. "My goal was to create a beautiful, elegant space
where our guests could relax and let their cares fade away," said Dino,
owner of the Seville. "Our guests appreciate the finer things in life, and
art is certainly one of them. Currently, the Seville features fine artwork
from Polish artist Joanna Zjawinska and Chinese artist Jiang Tiefeng. When
Louisa approached me with the idea of holding an art show in the club, it
made perfect sense to me."
"The minute I walked into the Seville, I knew I had to have a show
there!" exclaimed Louisa Greenstock. "Dino Perlman has created
a remarkable space that in many ways echoes the look and feel of a Warehouse
District art gallery. There is plenty of wall area, and as an artist I
longed to fill it with paintings that would reflect the energy and vibrancy
of the club."
The Seville Club's historic roots helped inspire the new
works to be unveiled at the opening, explains Louisa Greenstock. "I
learned that the Seville Club stands in the same site as the former Seville Hotel,
which in the 1920's and 30's hosted popular stars from the Broadway, Vaudeville
and Burlesque circuits. The classic charm and architecture of the club inspired
me to explore film noire and pulp art imagery. I also delved into the history of
burlesque, coming across images of such stars as Gypsy Rose Lee and Sally Rand."
